Graphic designing with inkscape

Hello, everyone.
What's up?
And welcome back!

first, I wanna play a game : can you guess the band and their song's title based on this lyric?

I ain't happy but, I'm feeling glad
I got sunshine, in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long
The future is coming on
I am happy, I'm feeling glad
I got sunshine, in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long
The future is coming on
Is coming on
Is coming on
Is coming on

Dont read more,
Just answer it first
And after that, you may go on.

Oh, I am kidding, lols
Just want to share that I like this cachy tunes from gorillaz really much!
Hewlett is a genius to make such characters like four of them, 2d, murdocs, russel, and noodle and plot the stories. collaborating with Damon Albarn for the songs.

Back to the topic.
Now I want to discuss about software I am proud to use for graphic designing,
specifically vector art. Yeah, that is : (Drum rolls) Inkscape.
You all may ask me why I use that.

Yes, I can tell you that..

um..

Inkscape has less features compared with any other vector graphic softwares like corel draw, freehand, adobe illustrator

for examples :

They (illustrator and corel)  have cool tool called color guide to help designer use suggested color which makes it easier and faster.

What else?

Inkscape (FYI: I am using inkscape-0.48.4-1) doesn't give user guide line that helps you  "attach" object to anothe object.

And for further features Inkscape doesnt have compared to them,
you can find it out by yourself.

Then I tell you, it also still has bugs.

Just name it...

When I want to make a node in the bend (line between the nodes)(for you illustrator user, you maybe find it more familiar with tool named pathfinder) it sometimes cannot make it. So I should make another node outside the bends then drag nearby nodes and put it between the line. I know this is hard to be visualized. just read it.

Okay, after all of my summary about the "weakness" of inkscape,

"SHOULD YOU TRY IT?"
YES OF COURSE YOU SHOULD

for good sample you can see most of my blog designed with inkscape. the rest is blogger template, some html and css stuffs.
and there comes a pop up baloon text on your head
As a designer, what makes me should try or use it?

Adobe Illustrator is leading vector app in the industry today. Do not go wrong with AI for the popularity and features most designer know and use, but unfortunately it only works on windows and mac.

Corel Draw is a great piece of software, truly advanced. and Corel had released a version of linux too. and it's doing fine now, and they have a rock-solid software suite that does everything you need it to (on windows only).

Xara EXTREME, apart from it being open-sourced and a fast renderer, It's not, nor has it ever been a major player in the industry.

Inkscape is the hidden gem here. I know entire groups of professional designers who use Inkscape (even though they've purchased Illustrator) because even for all the money you pay for illustrator, Inkscape has better features. Inkscape has had RGBa colours for a long time, has advanced path effects and opens and saves SVG FAR better than AI.

Even AI is better with text, Inkscape is far greater at general illustration (colouring, making icons, comics, illustrations). If I couldn't buy Illustrator, I could do just fine using Inkscape alone as a professionally trained designer.

Well i think that's all for general comparison.

If you are using illustrator and want to use inkscape but you are affraid you should start all over again you can look up at this one :

How AI user use Inkscape from wiki

Okay, that's all for. thanks for reading

ask me anything, you know.

May thunder jolt ou mind up.
have a good night!
